To celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025, QAHS hosted a vibrant Volunteer Showcase at lunchtime on Wednesday, highlighting this year's theme of "Connecting Communities."
Held in the Greenheart, the event brought together student and staff volunteers, community partners, and service groups to spotlight the many ways QAHS members are giving back. From long-standing CAS commitments to emerging initiatives, the showcase was a powerful reminder of the impact of service within and beyond our Academy.

Student and staff led initiatives such as the QAHS Wellbeing Committee, QAHS Community Garden, Knitting and Crocheting for Charity, and Letters to the Elderly were on display, showcasing the diverse and meaningful ways students are fostering kindness, connection, and community spirit. Students also connected with volunteers involved in QA Lifesavers, Rosies – Friends on the Street, and other local programs.
Special thanks to our external guests from Gold Coast Recreation & Sport and the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation, who joined us to highlight local volunteering opportunities for students to explore.
The showcase also recognised the global nature of service. QAHS staff member, Mrs Leena Palekar, shared her international volunteering experience with HOME (Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics), a Singapore-based NGO supporting migrant workers. During their time abroad, they taught women how to crochet reusable bags using upcycled materials, with proceeds supporting the women's livelihoods. Samples of the handcrafted items were displayed at the event, offering a creative and inspiring example of service in action.
🧡 “Let's acknowledge the spirit of connection and the incredible impact volunteers have in building thriving and inclusive communities." — National Volunteer Week 2025
A warm thank you to all who contributed to the success of today's event. QAHS continues to foster a culture of service, compassion, and global citizenship.
