Queensland Academy for Health Sciences was proud to stand alongside the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation as a volunteer supporter school for the fifth annual Giving Day — and what an incredible day it was!
On Thursday, a dedicated group of QAHS students and staff volunteers took part in the Foundation's flagship fundraising event, helping to exceed the $200,000 target in support of local patients and public hospitals. The day was filled with purpose, energy and heart.
Whether making donor calls, assisting with data processing, engaging with the public, staffing the market stall, or working behind the scenes, our QAHS volunteers demonstrated outstanding professionalism and care. Their contributions were vital to the day's success — and did not go unnoticed. We thank that 35 students and staff for volunteering after school for this event.
Funds raised during Giving Day will directly support the purchase of life-saving medical equipment, enhance patient care initiatives, and provide crucial support services for Gold Coast hospitals and health facilities. Every dollar donated will make a tangible difference to families in our region.
Our students were warmly welcomed by the GCHF team and even received a surprise hospital tour, offering a behind-the-scenes insight into the healthcare system and the real-world impact of their volunteering.
“Days like Giving Day simply wouldn't be possible without you." – Gold Coast Hospital Foundation.
We echo this sentiment and sincerely thank our students for representing QAHS with pride, kindness, and a genuine willingness to serve. Special thanks also go to Mrs Lee, Mrs Palekar, and Mrs Sabapathy for volunteering alongside our students.
QAHS will continue this meaningful connection with the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation — a pathway that not only supports our community, but inspires the next generation of health and medical professionals. Stay tuned for more opportunities to become involved.

Reflection by Liza Gratchev (Year 11)
“I recently took part in the GCUH Hospital Foundation Giving Day event. I found this was an invaluable event to help the community. Giving Day is hosted annually to raise funds for buying equipment and necessary expenses to keep the GCUH running smoothly.
I volunteered as a donor caller, which meant I called registered donors and asked if they would be willing to make another donation to support the Hospital Foundation. Helping out in this event was so self–fulfilling because firstly, it was fun to work as a volunteer and help out in the community, and secondly, it was such a great environment where everyone was supporting each other.
In the end, we even exceeded our goal of raising $200,000—which was really awesome! Ultimately, taking part in Giving Day has given me the opportunity to put myself out there and contribute towards helping the community in a fun and supportive environment."
