The success of our 2024 cohort didn't just stop with excellent IB results, Silver and Gold CREST Awards and recognition in Gold Coast Science, Science Teachers Association Queensland (STAQ) and other local competitions. Another celebratory development in the last few weeks had been on the Australian Science and Engineering Fair (AUSSEF) front.
Two of our students made the top 24 finalists in the AUSSEF, with their EE projects at least triple-marked by over one hundred Stage 1 and Stage 2 judges.
Elizabeth Lee - Investigating the effect of spherical tubercles on wind turbine efficiency
Dante Pellegrino - An experimental investigation into the anticoagulant properties of Nattokinase (subtilisin NAT) in whole blood and plasma, as quantified through viscoelastometric analysis of human blood using a ClotPro
As part of the Stage 3 judging, Elizabeth and Dante had a 10-minute online Zoom video interview with members of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) Selection Judging Panel, amongst other judging criteria.
While Dante was very close to qualify, Elizabeth was offered a place in the fully-funded 9-member Australian team to the 2025 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) to be held in Columbus, Ohio in May this year. Unfortunately, Elizabeth had to decline this opportunity due to her commitments. Elizabeth would have joined the likes of Amy Zhou, Thien Tran and Stanley Wey who have represented us proudly at previous ISEF's.
Nonetheless, this had been an amazing journey for Elizabeth and Dante and the other students who entered their projects in AUSSEF. Thank you to all teacher-supervisors, lab staff and mentors who support our student research so altruistically.
