As we leave winter behind and look forward to spring and summer, the QA Surf Lifesavers are gearing up for an exciting and busy 2024/2025 season. In collaboration with the Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club, our students are preparing to learn beach safety and rescue skills in readiness to volunteer during the patrol season. During Term 3, we have been busy training on a Wednesday lunchtime in CPR skills and in the pool at Griffith University on Friday afternoons for our water-based participants. Stay tuned for the new Term 4 training schedule, which will be released at the end of September.
We welcome aboard our newest staff surf lifesaver, Mrs Carolyn Hudson. Mrs Hudson brings a wealth of experience and expertise in Surf Life Saving to the group, with previous roles including Surf Sports Officer in the Cairns region.
Our QA Surf Lifesavers are undergoing training to stay prepared for any challenges the beach might bring. From CPR, to radio operation, rescue techniques to advanced first aid, these sessions ensure our lifesavers are fully equipped to keep the beach safe. Our students that already hold a qualification will also have the opportunity to complete new courses throughout the season.
Get Involved - New Members Welcome
We are always welcoming new members to the QA Lifesavers CAS group. No prior experience is necessary, and a range of qualifications is available, both land and water-based. Whether you're interested in obtaining a Bronze Medallion, learning First Aid and CPR, or specialising as a Drone Operator, Observer, or Radio Operator, there's a role for everyone. These qualifications ensure that all members, regardless of experience or physical ability, can contribute meaningfully to the lifesaving community.
Volunteering at the World Surf Life Saving Titles
This season, the World Surf Life Saving titles will take place on the Gold Coast, and some of our QA Lifesavers will be volunteering. This prestigious event is an excellent opportunity for our students to gain valuable experience and contribute to the international lifesaving community.
Support Through FairPlay Vouchers
The Queensland Government's FairPlay voucher initiative helps make club membership accessible by providing families with up to $200 towards community sport fees. This is a great way for families to support their children's involvement in lifesaving or other sports.
For more details or to apply for a FairPlay voucher, visit the Queensland Government FairPlay website.
We look forward to continuing to volunteer and keep the community safe on Gold Coast beaches this upcoming season.
