The QAHS Surf Life Saving group have been actively patrolling our Gold Coast beaches over the summer period. The QA Lifesaver program is now well into the third season of active participation, with over 60 students receiving at least one qualification. In our last season alone, the group registered over 1300 hours of voluntary patrol – what a team effort!
Please join me in congratulating our newest QA Lifesavers, who completed their qualifications in the school holidays.
Land-based qualifications:
Sahanya Abeyratne
Irene Fan
Sophie Hirabe
Daehan Park
Aryan Patel
Water-based qualifications:
Jake Dinsey-McDonald
Greta Douglas
Jazz Doyle
Caitlin Du Plessis

Connor Mitchell
Charlotte Wedemeyer
The students were recognised at our first whole-school assembly for 2024. Furthermore, may we extend our thanks to our QA Lifesaver Co-Captains – Josie Hamilton and Shiori Tseng. The captains continue to lead and support our new members throughout the season. Many of the students elect to patrol with other QAHS students (including QAHS ALUMNI), helping to keep the public safe on our beaches. In fact, our captains and other QAHS members were involved in a rescue on Christmas Eve while on patrol, playing a lead role in assisting two members of the public to shore in challenging conditions. Well done team!
Lastly, we welcome any new students who would like to give SLS a go, to the QAHS Surf Life Saving program. Most of our students start with no prior experience – with land and water based qualifications available.
