Science Teachers Association of Queensland (STAQ) nominated the Extended Essay (EE) project of Jordan Klos (class of 2023) on A study analysing the impact of implementing different fluid dynamic techniques to reduce drag for swimmers in short and middle-distance freestyle events for entry into the national ASTA i3 Awards science competition. ASTA i3 Awards is the Australia-wide competition by the Australian Science Teachers Association to judge the top science projects in the country.
After preliminary judging, Jordan's project has been selected as being in the top 8 in the ASTA I3 Science Awards. This is an outstanding accomplishment for Jordan and our school community. Jordan is now in the running to win the grand prize and be recognised as the winner for 2023/2024. The timeline for the final round is:
Wednesday, March 6 - Getting ready for judging information session (7pm-8pm AEST - Sydney Time)
Tuesday, March 19 - Final judging with the senior panel; Jordan will have 10 minutes with each judge at a scheduled time (5.00-6.45pm AEST)
Tuesday, March 26 - Virtual Science Awards Ceremony where the 8 finalists will speak with attendees; winners will be announced (7pm-8pm AEST)
Jordan has a real opportunity at winning the national title. We, at QAHS are very proud of what she has accomplished so far and we wish Jordan all the best in this competition and to a bright STEM future.
