The newest members of the QA community were symbolically welcomed by the entire school on Friday 27 January at Jumpstart, a day that has fond memories for current and former students.  The morning started with Mrs Alita Lee, Deputy Principal, talking to the new Year 10 students about the importance of grit - the combination of passion and perseverance for an important goal – and how it is the hallmark of high achievers in every domain. Then, over 60 Year 11 student volunteers mentored the 178 strong Year 10 cohort through a number of activities designed to help them get to know each other. This culminated in superbly choreographed performances by the Year 10 students that were enjoyed by the entire school, staff and students alike. It showcased the willingness of our students to be risk-takers and open-minded to giving things a go.

These attributes were again put to the test when the Year 10 students attended the school camp at Bornhoffen, PCYC, in the Gold Coast Hinterland. The bonds formed by students while participating in abseiling, high and low ropes activities, advanced creeking, and a range of leadership tasks will be long-lasting. The opportunity to experience challenges as individuals and in small groups, required them to develop group cooperation and self-management as well as take responsibility for themselves and each other. This will greatly benefit them at QA while striving to achieve their best and will help maintain and build on the positive culture at QA that we pride ourselves on.

Now that these initial bonds have been formed and strengthened, our Year 10 students are encouraged to use these friendships and experiences from Jumpstart and Year 10 camp to hit the ground running with their academic studies. They have a very exciting journey ahead of them and we are proud to support them along the way.

Year 10 Coordinator
