The most recent Brilliant Futures workshop involved the Year 7 – Introductory Year, to the Translational Research Institute in Brisbane. Students were bussed from QAHS in two separate groups. The workshop provided by the SPARQ-Ed immersion program, was based around micro-biology, and the use of microscopes. Students diligently and patiently followed the precise lab processes, to make exciting and increasingly interesting discoveries of pond water, and bacteria. Some students were startled with some of the micro-organisms they found, when looking through a video microscope, and there was a sense that they could have continued for hours, searching their slides for other images.

A special thanks to Mr Dion Obst for accompanying us on the day, and to Mrs Charmaine Keal, Head of Department, SPARQ-ed.
