Four students were selected to attend Griffith University's After the Siren event
The After the Siren workshop event is hosted by Griffith Sports College and is designed for school-aged elite and developing athletes. It includes information about good role modelling behaviour, tips on maximising opportunities and advice on preparing for life as an elite athlete. Topics included mental preparation, leadership, personal development, media, drugs in sport, nutrition and recovery. The following QAHS students had the pleasure of attending the event and engaging with professional and elite athletes.
Madeline Howell (Swimming)
Justin Kim (Swimming)
Natasha Lynch (Athletics and Power lifting)
Taylah Morris (Athletics)
Madeline kindly shared her experience at the event;
“The event at Griffith Uni was very insightful. We learnt a lot about nutrition, mindset, recovery, and what life is like as an elite athlete. The presenters for this event included staff from the AFL Gold Coast Suns, Surfing Australia and Runaway Bay Sports Centre. We also heard from the two individuals who run the Griffith Sports College. Overall, it was a great day in which we learnt so much about elite sport."
