On Monday 15 May, our Year 11 Business Management students had the privilege of attending a guest lecture presented by Tanya Sideris, Director of Operations, Defence & Regional Security at JACOBS, who offer consulting engineering services to both governments and the private sector. The focus of this presentation was to gain insights into JACOBS' sustainable business practices.

A highlight of the presentation was that students could see the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) in action. JACOBS has embraced six UNSDG's ranging from designing sustainable infrastructure to their clients, reducing inequalities by adopting an inclusive work environment, besides incorporating a 'one water' mindset and tapping into sustainable energy sources. Tanya explained how the 'culture of caring for the planet and people' (The Triple Bottomline) permeates the entire organisational activities at JACOBS.
With the new IB Business Management syllabus focussing heavily on 'sustainability' as a key concept, this guest talk gave insights to our students on the several, practical initiatives businesses such as JACOBS are implementing to achieve a better and sustainable future for all.
